my aunt is a venerable adult who recently got some building work done. she ask the builder before he started work how much the job was going to cost, the builder said that that he could not give a price until the job was done. My aunt just got her paving stone lifted and levelled and put back down. it was a small area with just 22 paving stones, the builder also painted her fence and charger her £1400 is this too much.
