I have now had two different injuries on two separate occasions. The first happened in the first week of January this year, and involved a crushing injury to my hand, when both the weight of myself and a sheep landed on it, against a concrete floor. It swelled up a lot, and there was a lump on the bone, and it appeared very different to my other hand. Obviously, being busy with lambing at the time, I didn't get it checked, and then went straight back into exams. It was very painful, and still is, and if anything seems to be getting worse. I also get numbness in my fingers on the side I hit. I have had nerve damage in the other hand before so I think it could be the same thing, in which case doctors cannot do anything, and I do not which to waste their time. Also, being a student, it is hard to be taken seriously at any time, as the stereotype of students is that we are all drunk for a large proportion of the time, which is not the case, especially for me, as I rarely drink.
I also got a second injury at the weekend, whilst rollerskating, which has left me with the biggest bruise I have ever seen, and that seems to be growing every day. It has now spread right around my arm, to the point where I seem to have more bruise than arm left. It was very swollen, and the swelling has come down a little with ice, but there is a hard lump beneath the skin, and a purple line tracking across the bone. I can move my arm, but I know that can mean nothing with a break, as my nan broke her arm and her leg on uneven paving and got up and walking home. She's actually done this twice now, and the first time she was not particularly old and she has no bone issues. Having said that I do not think I have broken anything, but I would rather not have to go to a hospital or walk in centre or GP to get it checked. My friends are concerned about my arm, but I think it is just a very big, painful bruise.
Any advice?
Thanks
I also have fibromyalgia (which is characterized my chronic pain and chronic fatigue) so this does affect my pain levels. Injuries often are a lot more painful than most people due to increase pain neurotransmitter, but I am also in pain 24/7.
I am also very good at breaking bones, I broke my thumb and wrist (scaphoid) in May last year, when I literally fell from standing onto the floor, I broke my elbow a couple of years ago walking into a tree, my ankle falling down 3 steps, my tail bone twice and had a green stick fracture when I twisted in my pram at 18 months. Also, I have hyper mobility syndrome so I dislocate things easily and have an increased risk of sprains. So yeah, I'm a tad on the accident prone side :/
